wax resist

In my other life I work with textiles, in particular African textiles. Different countries with different traditions. There is one technique that is used in several African countries and that is resist dyed cloth like tie dye or batik.

The wonderful thing about resist dyeing is that the final results are unique. On the cloth, the exact same pattern can never be replicated the way machine printed fabric can.

Wax resist is the most unpredictable due to the way wax melts and I love the way the melted wax creates its very own landscape on the cloth.

I've been exploring these landscapes through digital collaging and my next few posts I'll include the first few.
